My Workspace

The Work Space

Here are some shots from my office / hobby room where I do most of my work.  It's also where I've been hoarding my art supplies and various reference materials for years.

The Alvin CraftMaster II Deluxe Art-Drawing-Hobby Table is my third, and favorite drafting table.  Quick disclaimer, it never looks this clean.

Pros: I dig the extra storage space on both sides.  Comes in handy for all the extra, pens, pencils, and stuff that I have laying around my desk.

Cons: The pencil tray on front is flimsy and if you use an office chair with arm rests it's going to get in the way... a lot.

These are just a few of the books in my line up for 2016.  I've begun to move my library to the cloud to save on shelf space and take advantage of the huge discounts that you get with digital books.

This is about half of my reading backlog plus some reference material that I like to keep close by when I'm working.

This is my Wacom Bamboo Create pen and tablet (CH670).  You can still find this model on Amazon, but it has a huge mark up on it.  I'm still struggling to adjust to drawing on one surface while looking at another, but it's coming along.

This is also the way my desk usually looks when I'm working.

The Gaming / Research / Work Space

Unfortunately this is where I do a lot of my drawing.  The lighting is poor and it's not comfortable but can flip through tutorials and internet radio without getting up.

Software List
  • AutoDesk Sketchbook Express Version 6.2.1
  • Corel Painter Essentials 4 Version 4 .0.1.58
  • Krita Version 2.9.9 (Open-Source)
  • Manga Studio Version 5.0.6
The demo versions of Sketchbook and Painter Essentials came with the Wacom tablet.  Krita is open-source which means you can download and use it for free.

For any software you have to buy, like Manga Studio, I highly recommend using www.camelcamelcamel.com. This site creates a price tracker for Amazon and some other 3rd party vendors and will e-mail you when the product you want goes on sale. It will also show you the price changes since the item went on the market so you can see when the item peaked and what the lowest price was, which makes bargain hunting a breeze.
